After a series of lightning delays, the Lone Oak Buffalo JV football team kicked off the 2025 football season at Rains High School on Thursday night, August 27th.
The Buffalo offense got off to a slow start against an aggressive Rains defense, but the Lone Oak defense would keep the game close with several great plays led by Ashton Bain and Kaiden Gilstrap. The game was very much a defensive slugfest for the majority of the first half as the Buffaloes would go into halftime narrowly trailing the Wildcats, 0-8.
Lone Oak would find some offensive success in the second half, finding ways to move the ball on the ground. However, several costly mistakes would grind any success the Buffaloes were having to a quick halt. The defense, however, continued to fight hard, creating opportunities for the offense to generate some positive momentum.
Ultimately, the JV Buffaloes would come out on the short end of the game, dropping the season opener to the JV Wildcats, 0-24.
Despite the loss, there were some bright spots for the Buffaloes, including Braden Hooten on both the defensive and offensive lines, and Cash Pryor, who made some tough catches and gained some tough yardage versus a stingy Rains defense. Wesley Hudson gained some good yardage on punt returns and made several nice plays from the quarterback position on offense.
The 2025 Lone Oak JV Buffaloes are young, with the team being composed of mostly freshmen, who are having to get quickly adjusted to the much faster pace of high school football. However, these young men make no excuses, and continue getting better everyday. We look forward to watching them grow over the course of the year. They get another opportunity to pick up a win on Thursday, August 4th, in their home opener at Buffalo Stadium vs the Winona JV Wildcats. Please come out and support these young Buffaloes as they look to get into the win column!
