— Lone Oak — The Lone Oak JV Buffalo football team kicked off game two of this young season on Thursday night in their home opener at Buffalo Stadium. This proved to be a great night of football as the Buffaloes battled the Winona JV Wildcats in a back-and-forth game that provided many exciting moments for fans of both teams.

The Buffalo offense started slow, but quickly rebounded to put several points on the board through a punishing ground game and an electrifying air attack. Offensively, the two-headed Quarterback monster of Tavin Maiwelmal and Wesley Hudson provided several great offensive plays, making the Wildcats defense pay with some key throws and excellent runs. Wide receiver Cash Pryor made several spectacular catches for big yards while running backs JT Niles, Azlan Eiland, and Demakus Shepard had several big gains on the ground behind some great blocking by the Lone Oak offensive line. Offensive linemen William West, Jett Williams, Nathan Flores, Kaiden Gilstrap, and Clayton Strickland created huge run lanes and gave both quarterbacks plenty of time to throw the ball against a tough Winona defensive front.

The Buffalo defense battled all night versus a relentless Winona offense. The Wildcats responded immediately to several Lone Oak scores through the night with big runs by Winona’s talented running back corps. However, Lone Oak’s defense - along with great special teams play - would find ways to manufacture enough big stops at critical moments in the game, helping to pave the way for the JV football team’s first win of the season! Defensive standouts on the night included defensive lineman Kaiden Gilstrap, linebackers Jett Williams and Ashton Bain, and safety Wesley Hudson.

The final score on the night was Lone Oak 40, Winona 36. This big win brings Lone Oak’s overall record to 1-1 on the young season as they continue marching through non-district in preparation for district play in a few weeks. Lone Oak was scheduled to play at Big Sandy this week, but the Wildcats were not able to field a JV football team this year. In the mean-time, the Buffaloes will be looking for a replacement game, and any updates will be shared via SportsYou as soon as possible.
