JV Football vs. Rains

COACH JONES

Lone Oak Buffalo Athletics | 9/3/2024

The JV Buffaloes opened the 2024 football season last Thursday, August 29th at Buffalo Stadium against the Rains JV Wildcats.

The Wildcats would take the opening kickoff to around midfield and initiate their first offensive drive. Rains would attempt to deceive the Buffalo defense with trickery, but our boys would not be fooled, quickly shutting the opponent’s opening drive down in three downs and forcing the Wildcats to punt the ball.

The Buffaloes would take the ensuing drive down the field and punch the ball into the endzone for the first score of the game. After missing the 2-point try, the Buffaloes would take the early lead, 6-0.

Despite some great defensive play by the Buffalo defense throughout the remainder of the first half, the offense could not muster much momentum following their first score, and Lone Oak would go into halftime down 6-15.

The second half would be much more exciting as the Buffaloes would storm back and eventually take a narrow lead in the closing minutes of the ballgame. A couple of exciting second-half plays to get the Buffaloes back in the game were provided by stellar play from both the defense and special teams units. On defense, cornerback Deon Douglas intercepted a pass along the visitor’s sideline and sprinted into the endzone, untouched. This exciting play was followed later in the half by a kickoff return for touchdown by wide receiver Noah Coulter. Despite these great efforts- and a never-quit attitude- the Buffaloes would eventually fall to the Wildcats, 26-40.

This loss brings the Buffaloes to 0-1 on the young season with a chance to get into the win column against the Winona JV Wildcats on Thursday evening, September 5th, at 6:00pm in Winona.
